On January 4, 2016 MediaTek announced the MT7697 to help bridge Internet of Things (IoT) in the home. This new SoC furthers the market-leading family of IoT chips that provide high levels of integration with impressively low power consumption for applications such as home appliances, home automation, smart gadgets, IoT bridges and cloud connectivity.
The MT7697 powers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections for smart gadgets and wearables. To support consumers’ increasingly connected homes and lifestyles, MT7697 together with MediaTek’s extensive smartphone chipset portfolio help create a universal “eco-sphere” of seamlessly connected smartphones, wearables and appliances.
Overall, the MT7697 will provide increased flexibility in both BLE and WiFi connectivity, BLE for the short range and WiFi for long range and better Internet access. A dual-band WiFi version of the chipset, MT7697D, offers 2.4GHz and 5GHz support.
"The MT7697 is a market-leading offering to further innovations in smart home applications,” said JC Hsu, MediaTek’s corporate vice president and general manager of business IoT business unit. “It expands opportunities for developers to build connected home software and innovative devices with support from our pre-existing series of leading SoCs, and software and hardware development kits.”
The MT7697 supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and provides the highest integration among comparable SoCs, combining and optimizing DB WiFi, BLE, CM4 and RAM. It embeds a power amplifier with TX Power up to 10 decibel-milliwatts (dBm). On iOS devices specifically, MT7697’s BLE supports up to 160 bytes of maximum transmission units (ATT_MTU).
MediaTek’s MT7697 will be available in the first half of 2016.
